About
This work follows the core idea of the PELENA Festival. A veil is never simply a visual barrier. It serves as a special medium that allows all forms of matter to appear and renew themselves in soft and hazy surroundings. The creation is inspired by the science fiction novel The Three Body Problem written by Liu Cixin. The story shows human beings` strong curiosity about the unknown universe. People constantly try to break the limits of their cognition and send warm greetings to distant outer space. The Red Coast Signal represents the interstellar radio waves released from Earth. It carries human imagination of the cosmic world and reflects the sincere exploration spirit of human civilization.Realized as architectural mapping on a classical building, the work uses monochrome abstract geometries, flowing particles, orbital lines and undulating textures to simulate widespread cosmic mist, the cosmic Pelena medium. The interstellar signal travels steadily through the fuzzy cosmic medium. It is sometimes covered and hidden by dense star mist and sometimes breaks through obstacles to spread toward the deep universe. Light acts as the carrier of cosmic signals. The whole building turns into a huge receiver that captures distant cosmic information. The flowing light on the building facade visualizes the signal`s journey across the star-filled space, presenting a quiet and hopeful trans-temporal dialogue between humanity and distant unknown civilizations.
