About
The circle is a profound and powerful shape, embodying inclusiveness and completeness in its form while symbolizing perfection, continuity, reunion, unity, and harmony. In various cultures, the circle is seen as a symbol of unity and harmony. For instance, in Chinese culture, traditional foods like tangyuan and mooncakes are circular, representing family reunion and good fortune. Similarly, ancient Greek circular temples and theaters reflect their pursuit of perfection and symmetry. In Norse mythology, mysterious circular symbols in the "Norse runes" represent the cycle of the universe and the connect of the world. Even in the modern world, the circle holds significance; in mathematics and science, it represents key points and connections, while in art and design, it brings balance and visual appeal. The circle conveys the interconnectedness and interdependence of individuals, symbolizing the unity and harmony of communities and societies. In addition, CIRCLE also represents the cycle of life. The work we did at the Berlin Light Festival last year was about being in awe of life lost, and because I'm having a baby this November, I also think about the coming of life. Therefore, the whole work also describes the birth of life, which is the greatest miracle and shine of human beings. In this work, we will combine 2D and 3D forms, focusing on the "circle" as the central element. Although the circle is the only geometric shape used in this project, we will explore variations in color, size, and thickness to create a rich visual experience. Just as humanity is diverse in terms of gender, race, and beliefs, different circles will form a variety of relationships. For example, when blue and yellow circles overlap, they create a new color—green. Similarly, a small circle retains its integrity even when juxtaposed with a much larger circle. When all the circles come together, they create a perfect unity, conveying a message of solidarity and harmony.
