About

This mapping light and projection show was specially created for Songjiacheng in Yangzhou, transforming the ancient city wall into a massive visual canvas to illuminate the night sky of the first Jiangsu Hanjian 2019 Grand Canal Culture Carnival. The heavy city wall came alive through the interplay of light and shadow, gradually unfolding the millennia-old culture of the Grand Canal and the historical legacy of Yangzhou. The bustling Shaobo boat scenes, the ancient charm of Wantou Town, the elegance of Slender West Lake, the vastness of Guazhou Ferry, and the distinctive flavors of Huaiyang cuisine were all vividly brought to life. The shimmering waters of the canal reflected on the textures of the city wall, immersing audiences in a journey through time and space. This work is not only a tribute to the fifth anniversary of the Grand Canals UNESCO World Heritage inscription but also a cultural symphony dedicated to Yangzhou. Through this interplay of light and shadow, we aimed for viewers to feel the grandeur of the canal, the soul of Yangzhou, and the vibrant echoes of a thousand years of cultural heritage brought to life in the present.
