About

One by One is not merely a light and shadow mapping artwork, but a multidimensional experiment about connection and infinite potential. In the society of the future, architecture will have transcended its role as a physical vessel to become an interface where data, energy, and consciousness converge, both storing human existence and projecting the logic of society and the cosmos. We deconstructed architecture, reducing windows, columns, and bricks to points, lines, planes, and volumes, and infused them with dynamic life. They are at once geometric archetypes and codes of future civilization. A point represents information, a line a trajectory, a plane a convergence, and a volume the whole. Through fragmentation and aggregation, they demonstrate how civilization reorganizes and grows between chaos and order. In the construction of light and shadow, every luminous point becomes a beginning. Individual actions influence the shape of the whole, and interwoven lines are both the trajectories of the universe and projections of social structures. Architecture thus ceases to be material, becoming instead a node of relationships and an extension of consciousness. Viewed from a superstructural perspective, One by One invites audiences to enter a self-evolving social logic and to experience the drifting of individuals within the cosmic network. In its creation, twelve designers used light as brush and shadow as ink, employing Houdini, Maya, C4D, and TD to construct 389 segments, each lasting ten seconds, like geometric slices of data. In postproduction, montage and layering reinforced rhythm, flow, and tension, making the visuals both independent and resonant, ultimately converging into a 1 minute 50 second light and shadow experiment. Every frame is a meeting of order and chaos, as well as a projection of the social forms of the future. This artwork was awarded the Silver Prize in the Mapping Competition at the Intervals Festival 2025.
