About
The cheongsam is the convergence of Shanghai’s prosperity and Eastern elegance. It carries a natural air of nobility and aloof grace, flowing with a subtle sense of classical refinement. In the 1930s Shanghai Bund, the dragon-and-phoenix cheongsam appeared, bringing together techniques such as inlaying, embedding, bordering, appliqué, openwork carving, embroidery, piping, and painting—many of which are now nearly lost. Within every stitch, it condensed the ultimate expression of modern sophistication and traditional elegance. For this creation, we use mapping projection as the medium, allowing the static cheongsam to collide with dynamic light and shadow, recreating its unique charm in an immersive, multi-dimensional space. Drawing inspiration from the patterns of the dragon-and-phoenix cheongsam, motifs of flowers, birds, and butterflies are transformed into drifting particles of light, as if threads are rising and falling in midair, stitch by stitch, weaving out the delicacy of Eastern aesthetics. The imagery showcases the complexity of the cheongsam’s craftsmanship while abstracting its iconic curves into a flowing visual poem. In the end, its motifs are deconstructed and reassembled through light, like a condensed reflection of a century of Shanghai’s culture and grace.
